Alaska Woman Sentenced to 99 Years for Murder After Online Manipulation
Washington, DC,USA: In 2019, Denali Brehmer, a young woman from Alaska, killed her friend Cynthia Hoffman after being manipulated online by Darin Schilmiller, a man from Indiana. Schilmiller, pretending to be wealthy, offered Brehmer $9 million to commit murder, which led her to target Hoffman.
Brehmer, along with two friends, Kayden McIntosh and Caleb Leyland, lured Hoffman to a remote hiking spot, where they carried out the killing and sent proof to Schilmiller via Snapchat.
Brehmer was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to 99 years in prison in 2023. Schilmiller, who orchestrated the plot from Indiana, was also sentenced to 99 years. In a recent interview, Brehmer spoke publicly, taking full responsibility but explaining her actions were partly driven by anger over a prior conflict with Hoffman. She admitted to initially intending to reconcile with her friend but felt “payback” was due due to a fight over a boy.
